Mifflin County tops Midd-West to end week on winning note

 

LEWISTOWN- After falling in walk-off fashion Thursday night against Cedar Cliff, the MIfflin County baseball team rebounded in a strong way Friday ending the week on a winning note.

The Huskies defeated Midd-West in a 6-4 contest.

With the win, Mifflin County improves to 8-5 on the year.

Picking up the win for Mifflin County on the afternoon was Aidan Arnold, going 1 and 1/3 innings for the victory.

Arnold came in for starter Doug Weaver who went 5 2/3 innings allowing four runs on eight hits.

Xavier Smith led the charge offensively for Mifflin County finishing going 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored.

Jayden Smith, Landen Eichhorn and Calin McKnight all posted hits as well.

In the first inning, the Huskies started off the contest with two runs in the inning.

Eichhorn started things with a single into left.

Xavier Smith followed with a shot into left field as well.

Everyone moved up a base on a Jayden grounder that forced a miscue, loading the bases.

McKnight made the best of his situation sending a screaming single that scored both Eichhorn and Xavier Smith.

Back came the Huskies in the second inning, adding to their lead with another run added to the scoreboard.

Farrell Souders scored on a wild Mustang pitch, upping the lead to three.

Midd-West jumped on the scoreboard in the third and cut the MIfflin County lead to 3-1.

But the Huskies battled right back scoring back the run they had given up the inning before.

Hayden Yoder got the third started off on the right foot. Yoder reaches on a Midd-West miscue, putting him at second.

Hunter Marks hit a sacrifice fly that moved Yoder to third, tagging up on the play.

Souders single brought in Yoder, upping the score to 4-1.

Midd-West crept back into contest scoring a run the fourth and two in the sixth, tying it at four.

But the Huskies weren’t going to end the week with a loss, adding g two more runs to take back the lead in the bottom of the sixth.

Xavier Smith scored Eichhorn on an RBI single to center. Brother Jayden scored Xavier with a single of his own.

That would be all that Arnold and his defense needed as they held on for the victory.
