MC baseball loses nail biting extra inning contest to Cedar Cliff

The Mifflin County Huskies baseball team fell to Cedar Cliff 4-3 on Thursday on the final play of the game.

The Colts were down 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning when an error scored two runs.

A solo home run to center field by Xavier Smith put Mifflin County on the board in the top of the fourth.

Cayden Bender homered to right field, which helped the Colts tie the game at one in the bottom of the fourth.

The Huskies took the lead in the top of the sixth. Jayden Smith singled, scoring one run, to give Mifflin County the lead, 2-1.

Cedar Cliff tie the game at two in the bottom of the sixth.

The Huskies took the lead in the top of the eighth. An error scored one run, to give Mifflin County the advantage, 3-2.

Sam Grube earned the win for the Colts. The right-handed pitcher allowed one hit and one run (zero earned) over one inning, striking out one and walking one.

Landen Eichhorn took the loss for Mifflin County. The righty went one and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs (zero earned) on four hits, striking out none and walking none. Logan Alexander stepped on the mound first for the Huskies. The right-handed pitcher gave up five hits and one run over four innings, striking out none and walking none. Peyton Price led things off on the mound for the Colts. The righty allowed three hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out six and walking two.

Smith and Smith were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Mifflin County. The Huskies turned three double plays in the game.

Cedar Cliff amassed 13 hits in the game. Eisenhower seized on their opportunities, leading the Colts with three runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The left-handed hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Luke Minium led Cedar Cliff  with three hits in four at bats. Grube, Bender, and Michael Boblick each collected multiple hits for the Colts. Cedar Cliff  turned one double play in the game.

West on Friday for their next game.
