MILESBURG – A familiar face is in a familiar place.
Playing an early afternoon contest because of a graduation event, the Bald Eagle softball team found itself in a defensive battle with visiting Westmont-Hilltop Thursday at Milesburg.
Pitching phenom Madison Peters went the distance allowing just two hits and eight strike outs.
Taking the loss for Westmont Hilltop was Bailey Thornton.
The game would be a scoreless battle until the fifth inning before the Lady Eagles would get the ammunition they would need to take home the “W”.
Peters helped her own cause as she advanced on a walk. She was replaced on the base path by courtesy runner Haley Bucha .
Bucha advanced to second on a wild pitch.
She blazed her way to third via a sac bunt by Megan King.
Teammate Katelyn Smitchko kept the momentum going as she roped a double, scoring Bucha.
Maddie Eckley continued things as she belted an RBI single.
Mara Hockenberry singled in Eckley, giving her team a 3-0 advantage with Peters and company playing their A-game .
The Eagles wait to see who their opponent will be as they are back in action Wednesday at Saint Francis in the title game.
