Big Valley 10s rally late to take D5 crown

Clutch under pressure!

The Big Valley 10U baseball team captured the District 5 championship Wednesday, toughening out a 3-2 victory over State College.

It would be one for the ages for the crew from the Big Valley as they rallied back from a 2-0 deficit by rallying three runs late to bring home the title.

Owen Fultz led the offense, posting two hits and an RBI.

Others picking up RBIs were Jake Savitts and Aiden Goss.

Big Valley finished the day with seven hits.

State College were led by Berkley Ingold. Ingold finished with two hits and an RBI. Liam Williams posted the other Little Lions RBI.

Picking up the win in for Big Valley was Liam Bender while teammate Chase Yoder picked up the save.

Trailing 2-0 going into the fourth, Big Valley started its march back into the game.

Calvin Napikoski led off with a single past second.

Owen Fultz reached on a State College miscue to join Napikoski putting runners on first and second.

Savitts blasted a line drive into right field, scoring Napikoski to cut the lead in half.

State College held the Big Valley squad to just the one run in the inning.

But in the sixth, Big Valley rallied back to take the lead.

Yoder led the charge, posting a double. Napikoski advanced via a walk. Yoder moved up to third on a passed ball.

He tied the game two on a Fultz blast that ended in a double. Napikoski advanced to third on the play. Savitts was intentionally walked to load the bases.

Goss brought the winning run in on an RBI fielders choice.

Coming in relief for Big Valley in the final inning, Yoder and company kept the State College bats in check, capturing the title.

In the first, State College struck first.

Braden Summerson reached on a Big Valley error. Will Callahan singled, putting runners on first and second.

Liam Williams ripped an RBI single scoring Summerson.

However, the Big Valley defense was able to get Callahan at the plate, keeping the damage to a minimum.

In the second, State College added a second run via an RBI single Ingold single.

Despite trailing, Big Valley was able to battle back and send themselves onto the next round.
