BELLEVILLE – Belleville Mennonite showcased a lot of grit and determination as the Thunder dropped the Columbia County Christian Defenders by the final score of 46-21 in its final Allegheny Christian Athletic Association regular season girls basketball game Tuesday night.

It was the dynamic duo of Chloe Renno and Sonya Yoder who carried the load for the Thunder offense during the evening.

Though Yoder struggled to get her shots to fall during the opening period of the game, the Thunder got behind the efforts of Renno in the painted area to help pull ahead of the Defenders. In fact Renno scored more points in the frame than Columbia County Christian did, scoring eight for the first quarter while the Defenders had seven.

But then in the second quarter was where Belleville Mennonite put the pedal to the metal and never looked back as Renno continued to control the paint while Yoder finally got going offensively and together combined for 10 of the 12 total points scored in the quarter while holding the Defenders to just one point in the frame and took a 24-8 lead at the break.

Yoder and Renno continued with their one two punch in the third quarter as the tag team combined scored all 11 points in the frame.

Then Yoder finished the game off with scoring nine of the 11 total points that was scored in the fourth and final quarter of the game.

Another big factor in the Thunder victory was their dominance in the paint and on the boards as for the whole game every single Belleville Mennonite player grabbed a rebound. In fact, the Thunder had a player with at least two or more rebounds in the game.

Yoder and Renno each had a double double for the evening as Yoder led with 21 points, 13 rebounds, seven steals and five assists while Renno added another 16 points alone with 11 rebounds, five of which were offensive and six were defensive and two blocks.

Natalie Yoder had 10 rebounds, Karina Renno grabbed five boards and Miriam Stoltzfus nabbed seven rebounds for the evening.

After the game, the Thunder then honored their lone senior Chloe Renno playing her final season in a Thunder uniform.

Belleville Mennonite moves up to (9-7, 6-4) and will be preparing to face Great Commission in the first round of the ACAA playoffs on Thursday at Blair County Christian.
