Boone reaches milestone in BEA win over Great Johnstown

WINGATE – The high flying Bald Eagle Area volleyball team got its week up and running on a fine note topping Greater Johnstown in Tuesday prime time action.

Highlighting the night was Bald Eagle server Olivia Boone as she hit the 100 career ace plateau in the Lady Eagles 3-0 shut out over Greater Johnstown Area Tuesday.

Bald Eagle took the contests 25-16, 25-12 and 25-11.

“The girls stayed focus. They knew they had a job at hand and they took care of it,” said Bald Eagle Area coach Zach Rote. “They played really well early and they kind of picked each other up and took care of business tonight.”

It didn’t take long for the Eagles to take command of things.

After falling behind early, the Eagles warmed up quickly.

Trailing 4-1, the Eagles tied things up after a side out and two aces by Boone, knotting things at four.

Bald Eagle slowly started to slowly move away from the Trojans on the scoreboard.

Gabrielle Perry was very dangerous from the server line as well, posting three consecutive service points, taking the lead for the first time on the night at 8-6.

They continued their distance when Taylor Habovick took the service spot and ran off six consecutive points, five by Habovick. She took care of the first two points by herself, notching two quick aces.

Then in the final points were from a smash by Leah Bryan and also a hit in the middle of the court.

The first contest proved to be a total team effort as the Eagles continued its strong serving.

Now leading 17-11, the Eagles brought Nora Eppley to the line and she did not disappoint. With the front line help from Bryan, Eppley Bald Eagle rolled off three points in the rally, taking a 20-11 advantage.

The teams finished the contest exchanging side outs for most of the final portion of the game, as the Lady Eagles took the 25-16 win.

As the second game got underway, the Eagles continued to sharpen their game.

After both teams went back-and-forth early on, Boone would help the Eagles offense going.

No one upped the Eagles lead to 5-2 after two more service points, including another ace.

But it would be Gabrielle Perry and Habovick who combined would roll off the Eagles next 10 service points increasing the lead to double digits for Bald Eagle.

Again, that would be the all the spark the Eagles would need as they were able to stave off the Trojans winning 25-12.

In the final set, magic was made when things were tied at three, Boone stepped to the line and rolled off four straight service points, including her 100th ace.

“Her serves are one of the nastiest I’ve seen,which is awesome to have,” said Rote. “She’s a great server. She’s a great weapon for us. So to see 100 career aces from her, I’m so happy for her.”

From there, the Eagles finished out the contest and ended the match, posting a 25-11 victory en route the ending the night with a victory.
