Macknair becomes the seventh Raider to receive the prestigious league award

Shippensburg University’s Chayce Macknair (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County) was named the 2022 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Men’s Indoor Track & Field Rookie of the Year on Friday afternoon.

Voting is conducted by the league’s head coaches.

Macknair won two conference championships in 2022, finishing his debut indoor conference meet by winning the 3K title in 8:33.45 for a five-second victory and winning the 5K title in 15:09.84.

His top marks included the conference’s fastest times of the season in the mile (4:14.35 / 4:17.59 at Alvernia), the 3K (8:27.83 at Penn State) and the 5K (14:36.96 at VMI). Macknair was eligible for the award as the 2021-22 season was his first year of athletic eligibility in the sport. He redshirted in 2019-20 and there was no season in 2020-21 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Macknair is the fourth consecutive Raider to be named the PSAC Men’s Indoor Rookie/Freshman of the Year and the seventh overall – joining Drew Dailey (2020), Shamar Jenkins (2019), Austin Padmore (2018), Steve Waithe (2012), Herman Kirkland (2011) and Andrew Batula (2009). The award was first issued in 2005.

Shippensburg claimed three of the league’s four major awards, as Dailey was named the PSAC Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year and Dave Osanitsch was named the Men’s Indoor Coach of the Year. Cal’s Jalen Cloud was named the PSAC Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Year.
