The Mifflin County Girls Cross Country team had an early morning departure to run in the Gettysburg Invitational with the Varsity girls race beginning at 8:30am. Amilia Coffey crossed the finish line first for the team placing 50th out of 204 runners. She was only 8 seconds off her fast season best from last week and continues to get stronger as we move toward championship season. Ava Kratzer improved her Gettysburg time from last year coming across the line in 115th place. Mary Kanagy and Alexis Anderson pushed each other going through the finish completing the race within the same second. Caroline Palopoli had a great race and finished up the scoring for the Varsity Girls.
As a team the Lady Huskies placed 17th out of 26 teams. There are many strong teams at this invitational drawing some schools from several other states. What I really liked was how close together some of our team was. That always helps in the team competition and today they saw an improvement from what they did at Carlisle last week. If we can get that group to move down in time, together, that will really improve our placing headed into the end of our season.
The JV girls had some significant improvements in their times. Maya Morgan was extremely close to her PR from last year and bested her season best by nearly 3 minutes. Falynn Reinard set another PR and has consistently improved her time over the past two weeks.
Next week the team will have a break from midweek dual meets which will give us the opportunity to focus on training a little more. They will race next Saturday, October 14at the Mid Penn Championships.
