Eagles March Past Purple Raiders

HUNTINGDON, Pa.-
 The #12 Juniata men’s volleyball team swept aside visiting Mount Union, 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-17), Saturday afternoon inside Memorial Gymnasium.

Tyler Goldsborough (Reading, Pa. / Exeter Township HS) led the offense with 14 kills while hitting .458 and five digs, while Kevin Duffy III (Carlisle, Pa. / Carlisle HS) hit a robust .818 and added three block assists. Drew Hunker (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny HS) added two kills, an ace, and four block assists, while Luke Hoffman (Reading, Pa. / Exeter Township HS) chipped in with three kills, a solo block, and three block assists. Austin Goodsel (Corry, Pa. / Fort Leboeuf HS) amassed 16 assists, while Reese Ganter (Reading, Pa. / Exeter Township HS) totaled 15 assists and four digs. Will Phelan (Saegertown, Pa. / Saegertown HS) had five kills, two aces, six digs, a solo block, and a block assist.

The Eagles went on two different runs scoring six straight as they dominated the opening frame and easily took set one on a kill from Duffy.

Juniata amassed a small lead midway through the second and didn’t let up, reaching set point a block from Phelan and winning two points later on a service error.

The Purple Raiders got within three late in the third set, 19-16, and the Eagles called timeout. A kill from Goldsborough and two straight errors gave JC some breathing room. The Purple Raiders took the next point before a kill from Hoffman, a block from him, and Hunker got the Eagles to match point, and Goldsborough ended things with an ace.

Juniata returns to action at 6:00 this evening against Baldwin Wallace.
