Huskies fall on road to seasoned Red Land squad

LEWISBERRY – Things start out well for the Mifflin County Huskies baseball team, plating two runs in the top of the first against a seasoned Red Land team Tuesday.

However, the Huskies Achilles heel tonight was its five errors on the night.

The Veteran Patriots took advantage of those miscues as it rattled off 11 runs while the Huskies were forced to play from behind for half of the contest.

In the Red Land finished with an 11-4 victory over the Huskies.

On the offensive side, Xavier Smith led the way with a 2-for-3 effort, with an RBI and two runs scored. Ryan Kanagy also finished with two hits and an RBI.

Christian Lubic notched the win for Red Land while Bryson Bubb took the loss for MIfflin County.

In the first inning, designated hitter Kanagy led off the first with a 1-out walk.

Smith, who leads the Huskies in on base percentage and batting average, blasted an RBI double, scoring Kanagy.

Smith moved up to third on a last ball, as Jaxson Pupo came up to bat.

Pupo grounded into a fielders choice allowing Smith to score, making it a 2-0 advantage going into the bottom of the inning.

The Patriots cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning.

Lubic had his pitches lasered in, painting the corners consistently, striking out 11 Huskies in 5 2/3 innings.

“We beat ourselves today. We had errors that just snowballed and it went from there. I we don’t make those errors it’s a different ball game and we are in it all game long,” said MIfflin County coach John McGonigle. “We finally got some clutch hitting in spots. We left the bases loaded again. But we were able to get timely hits now and then and get a couple runs on the board.”

From there the Patriots went on a 10-0 run to put the game out of reach.

However, the Huskies battled back scoring two late, cutting the score to 11-4.

The Huskies are off tomorrow and then back at it on Thursday going up against.
