LEWISTOWN – l

A young MIfflin County field hockey team came into Monday’s game against Selinsgrove looking for its first win of the 2023 season.

They also we’re celebrating the seniors of this year squad as well

The MIfflin County senior players being honored were Liza Underhill, Tia Ematat, Megan Hartzler, Lexi Corson, Adeline Wilburne and Jaima Shilling were honored after the contest.

Despite battling for the entire 60 minutes, the young Huskies fell to the Seals.

“I think we still have some things to work on. I think we need some offensive pressure,” said MIfflin County coach Brittany Wilcox. “And some more scoring opportunities. I think we are going to get there this season. We have young team and we just got to keep pushing through.”

In the end, the Seals were the ones that came out ahead posting a   victory over the Lady Huskies 3-0.

In the first quarter both teams exchanged field position numerous times trying to establish their tempo.

Both defenses were not having it. Mifflin County’s back-third consisted of Megan Hartzler, Alexis Anderson, Holly Guyer and Aubree Dobson. The crew was busy most of the afternoon closing up the running gaps and stealing the ball.

Mifflin County was able to push the ball into the Seals area for the last five minutes of the first quarter, but we’re not able to get anything through the Selinsgrove defense.

Coming out of the intermission, the Seals came out and kept the Huskies from scoring as the MIfflin County pushed the ball right up the field.

However, Selinsgrove was able to dodge the early bullet, pushing the ball down and scoring on an Alexis Freed unassisted goal at 11:14.

Though the Huskies were able to get the ball down in Seals territory, they couldn’t find the crack in the Selinsgrove wall to push a goal through.

Going into the final stanza, the Huskies battled to the bitter end.

However, Selinsgrove added an insurance goal on a Lynley Burke unassisted goal at 9:43, making it a 3-0 contest.

That would be too much for the Huskies to battle back from as the group from Selinsgrove was able to outlast the Lady Huskies.
