REEDSVILLE – The Juniata boys cross country team had some great performances on Thursday, October 19, but it wasn’t enough to win against Mifflin County. They lost 29 – 30, but won against Williamsport 26 – 29. Leading the Juniata Indians was junior Wyatt Stroup winning the 5k race in 16:44. Junior Joey Bomberger came in right behind in 2nd place in a time of 16:53. Junior Wesley Ehrisman came in 5th with a time of 17:41. Freshman Coy Kerstetter was 17th with a time of 18:48 and sophomore Ricky Guante rounded out the scoring for the Indians with his 18th place finish in a time of 19:08. Other Juniata Indians competing in the race were junior Teagan Trout in 21st place in a time of 19:28, junior Charlie Telfer 25th place in a time of 20:27 and freshman Joel Hardin 28th place with a time of 22:02. Juniata Coach Jeff Miller said “I knew it was going to be hard to beat Mifflin County with one of our top runners out for a soccer game. Everyone ran their hearts out to make it close losing by just 1 point. Wyatt and Joey took care of business as usual with their first and second place finishes. Wesley ran a solid race today. Freshman Coy Kerstetter ran tough today to run a personal best. Teagan and Charlie shaved some more time off to run personal best also. It was nice to have Ricky Guante in our line up today since his main sport is soccer.”
In the girls race, it was Juniata’s freshman sensation Sylvia Brubaker taking the lead from the gun and never looking back. She won the race in 19:20. Freshman Hannah Book ran to a 13th place finish in a time of 24:37. Freshman Izabella Sanders was 17th place in a time of 26:00.5 and freshman Jordana Steffan placed 21st with a time of 28:20. The Juniata cross country team only had 4 girls run so the weren’t able to score as a team. Juniata Coach Jeff Miller said “Three of our girls ran to personal best today so that’s always encouraging for me and them this late in the season. I was going to have Sylvia run a workout within the race today, but that changed when we found out Williamsport had a girl who wasn’t far behind her in time. It was awesome to see Hannah, Izabella, and Jordana come away with personal best today.”
The Juniata Indians had 7 runners take part in a 1.65 mile time trial after the high school races. The following are a list of times they all ran.
Drue Hoffman – 13:01s
Ella Zimmerman – 13:20
Sebastian Ehrisman – 13:38
Morgan Ehrisman – 16:15
Genesis Guante – 16:40
Mackenzie Wray – 16:58
Dante Sanders – 17:23
Juniata Coach Jeff Miller said “The junior high team ran great today. Ella, Morgan, Genesis, and Mackenzie ran personal best and this was Dante’s first race at this distance.”
