Juniata boys soccer sizzles for 14-goal victory

Offense took center stage Monday as the Juniata boys soccer team exploded for the 14-0 win over Line Mountain in Tri-Valley League action.
In the first half, the Indians posted six goals to put their team in real great shape to win the contest.
However, they weren’t done quite yet as the Juniata arsenal continued to bombard the Line Mountain goal by adding eight second half goals, putting the “W” in the win column for the Indians.
Jelvin Cardenas paced the Juniata scoring attack posting four goals. Teammate Will Saner followed up with a hat trick of his own as did teammate Henry Rivas.
Others scoring a goal for the Indians were Dawson Harper, Seth Landis and Colten Garver’s two goals.
Juniata out shot Line Mountain 30-0 and led in corners by a 5-0 margins.
“Line Mountain is a very young team that started primarily freshman and sophmores. They never quit and played hard the entire game,” said Juniata coach Jared Byler. “The boys on our team and coaching staff have a lot of respect for their mentality of never quitting. I look for Line Mountain to be a difficult team to play in the future.”
In the First Half, Cardenas notched his first goal of an assist by Brant Walters at 37:18.
Next was Saner at 30:52 As he picked up a pass by Bryce Rush, making it a 2-0 advantage.
Juniata was at it again at 29:21 when Cardenas hit goal number two on an assist by Kenny Melara.
Minutes later, Saner was at again as he notched his second goal at 26:25 thanks to an assist by Brant Walters.
Juniata’s Cardenas notched a hat trick at 24:39.
Juniata scored the last goal of the half at 21:25 Henry Rivas scored on an assist by Kenny Melara.
When the dust settled in the first half, the Indians led comfortably 6-0.
That would be all the cushion Juniata would need as it went on a second half scoring binge, picking up eight more goals en route to the victory.
