Juniata Christian girls soccer rolls over Columbia-Montour Vocational-Tech

MCALISTERVILLE – Juniata Christian used selfless soccer led by the trio of Peyton Burd, Annika Martin and Lydia Goodling and routed Columbia-Montour Vocational-Technical by the final score of 17-0 in non-league girls soccer action Monday afternoon.

Throughout the game, the Lions had complete control of the tempo as well as possession of the ball as they held the ball on the Rams’ side of the field for 95 percent of the game. Juniata Christian never allowed much room for the Rams to breath having a total of 43 shots for the whole game.

The Lions scored a goal within the first 15 seconds of the match and the flood gates were wide open. They scored 10 goals in the first half out of 23 shot attempts.

Juniata Christian showcased great vision throughout the field as the Lions were focused on finding the open player before taking a shot at the net. The Lions had eight of the 10 goals scored in the first half came with an assist.

Then the Lions added on seven more goals in the second half with five of those came with assist. Erin Sheaffer led the Lions with four assists.

The trio of Martin, Burd and Goodling were fully on display throughout the game with all three getting three or more goals. Martin and Burd each led the Lions with five goals and had connected with one another on four separate occasions. Meanwhile Goodling had four goals for the afternoon including one that she got an assist from her sister Melinda Goodling.

Burd is on a milestone for career number 100 goals. She came into the game with a total of 91 goals. Now with scoring five goals, she is up to 96 inching ever so closer to the 100 milestone.

With this victory, Juniata Christian remains unbeaten in 2022 with a record of (2-0) and will travel to play against East Juniata under the lights today.
