Juniata girls dominate Line Mountain

By Kenny Varner

MIFFLINTOWN – They all brought their A-game.

After a very quick goal by Line Mountain to start the game, the Juniata girls soccer team rebounded and seemed unscathed as they went onto totally dominated the Eagles in a 7-1 victory Monday night at home.

“They did a really good job. They just came out a little slow but once we got going and possessed the ball we are really dangerous,” said Juniata Co-Coach Laresa Paden. “I think we should have had even more goals with all the chances we had. That’s one thing we got to work on, finishing and capitalizing. We looked really good tonight. We are both really happy with how we played tonight.”

Offensively, the Indians pounded out 23 shots and six corner opportunities while its defense limited Line Mountain to 10 shots on goal and three corners.

Leading the way offensively was Nyah Pannebaker who tallied a hat trick and was very instrumental in the smooth and precise offensive presence for Juniata.

Highlighting her night was a header goal off of a corner opportunity.

Teammate Ashlyn Pannebaker followed up with two goals of her own.

Other notching goals for Juniata were Victory Frantz and Liseth Montoya.

Despite the big win, the Eagles opened the game a drove immediately down into the Indians’ end of the field.

Less than a minute in the Eagles’  Elizabeth Spieles broke loose and blasted an unassisted goal at 39:35.

However, that lead would take less than five minutes to be erased.

After taking over possession, the Indians were very methodical as they worked the ball around the field.

After knocking on the door for a few tries, Nylah Pannebaker got free on an assist by Frantz and blasted it past the Eagles’ goalie tying it at one at 35:13.

Just about five minutes later Ashlyn Pannebaker assisted by Shreya Patel , gave the Indians’ their first lead at 30:13.

Both teams battled for field position but the Juniata back-third protected their goalie Hailey Kepner.

And when they couldn’t, Kepner was attacking the ball and sending the Eagles back empty handed.

With less than 10 minutes to play in the first period, the Indians added one last goal.

Again it would be Nylah Pannebaker this time getting an assist from Liseth Montoya at 9:28.

As the Indians went into the intermission, they had all momentum they would need, leading 3-1.

Juniata brought that intensity back into the second half, hitting a goal within the first three minutes.

At 38:31, Ashlyn Pannebaker scored on an assist by Nylah Pannebaker.

Before the first 10 minutes were up in the second, Nylah Pannebaker notched her hat trick in a special way.

Katey Martin set the ball down for a corner kick, sending a screamer to the middle of the goal where Pannebaker would hit it in via a header.

Rounding out the other scorers for the Indians on the night were Frantz and Montoya.

Juniata is back in action on Wednesday at Millersburg.
