Juniata men struck first but falls to Scranton in men’s action

HUNTINGDON, PA – The Juniata men’s soccer team (2-7-1, 0-3 Landmark) struck first against Scranton (5-3-1, 1-0-1 Landmark) Friday afternoon but a strong second half gave the Royals a 3-1 victory.

Four minutes was all it took to give Juniata the lead early in the game. A foul on the Royals set up Steven Stroup (Bedford, PA / Bedford) to get his first goal of the season. Stroup finished the game with two shots (one SOG).

Juniata carried their 1-0 lead into halftime.

Scranton got the equalizer early in the second half and carried the momentum for the remainder of the game. The Eagles had opportunities to score but the Royals’ defense held strong.

The go-ahead goal for Scranton came in the 69th minute of the game.

James Johnson (Cumberland, MD / Fort Hill) recorded 11 saves between the posts.

Scranton out-shot Juniata 20-8 and held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Eagles look to regroup and head out on the road to face Hood Tues. Oct. 6 at 3:30pm.
