On Saturday, October 21st, Juniata’s Josiah Barner and Carolyn Heidenreich competed at the Pennsylvania Middle School Cross Country Championships held at Lock Haven University’s cross country course.  In the first race of the day it was 8th grader Josiah Barner running to a personal best time of 12:10.2 to take 37th place.  Nate Viands from Amber Olympic Club won the boys race in 10:16.4.  There were 124 runners that took part in the boys race.

In the girls race, it was 8th grader Carolyn Heidenreich running to a personal best time of 12:47.4 to take 9th place and make the podium and medal.  Leah Navarro from Dallastown Area won the girls race with a time of 11:17.5.  There were 110 runners that took part in the girls race.

Juniata Coach Jeff Miller said “It was great to see Josiah and Carolyn end their cross country season with personal best times and very well executed races.  They both play other fall sports as their main sport, so they had limited time to focus on just running.  To run as well as they did today, just shows how talented and competitive they both are.  In my honest opinion, I could see the both of them being two of the top runners in the state in high school if they choose to do so.  They are not only very gifted athletes, but great young kids that would be an honor to coach in the upcoming years.”
