Lock Haven Baseball takes two games from Bloomsburg on the road

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. –
The Lock Haven baseball team swept Bloomsburg on the road in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader on Thursday afternoon (March 14). The Bald Eagles took game one, 4-1, before stealing the nightcap, 7-5.

With the sweep, Lock Haven improves to 5-11 overall and 2-4 in the PSAC East. Bloomsburg falls to 2-11 overall and 0-6 in conference play.

Lock Haven totaled 15 hits on the afternoon, while the pitching staff sent eight pitchers to the mound and limited the Huskies to six runs in 14 innings.

Game One: Lock Haven 4, Bloomsburg 1

In game one, the Bald Eagles struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the third thanks to RBIs by Gaven Neal (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) and Greg Cristino (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial).

Neal drove in his second run of the game with a single to center to make it 3-0 Lock Haven through five innings.

Lock Haven added an insurance run in the top of the sixth after Joeseph DeSiena (Jacksonville, Fla./Atlantic Coast) ripped an RBI-double into the right center gap.

Bloomsburg plated its only run in the top of the seventh off a solo home run.

Matt Lingenfelter (State College, Pa./State College) earned his second victory of the season and didn’t allow a run in 4 and 2/3 innings of work, while striking out one.

Jace Szaflarski (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) threw the final 2 and 1/3 innings and allowed just one run on two hits and struck out three.

Game Two: Lock Haven 7, Bloomsburg 5

In game two, Lock Haven opened the scoring with solo runs in the top of the third and fourth inning to build a 2-0 advantage.

Bloomsburg scored a solo run in the bottom of the fourth, but The Haven erupted for five runs in the top of the fifth to extend its lead to 7-5.

Lock Haven walked four times in the inning, which was highlighted by a 2-RBI single by Dante Bruno (Telford, Pa./Souderton Area).

The Huskies wouldn’t quit, and scored one run in the fifth before rallying for three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but Dylan McKenna (Islip, N.Y./Islip) struck out the final hitter to seal the victory for the Bald Eagles.

For Lock Haven, six different players drove in runs, while Cristino picked up another multi-hit game (2-for-4) and DeSiena added a double.

On the mound, Kevin Worek (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Abington) turned in a quality start, going four-complete innings and allowing just one earned run and striking out two.

Jared Colledge (Everett, Pa./Everett Area) picked up the victory (1-0) after throwing a scoreless fifth inning.

McKenna earned his first save after entering the game to record the final out in the seventh with Bloom rallying.

The Bald Eagles return home to Watkins Field to host Bloomsburg for a PSAC East doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 16.

Saturday will serve as Lock Haven’s Military Appreciation Day.
