MC 14s pound out 12 hits in Mid-Atlantic Opener, drops Millburn-Short

MILROY – Lighting up the night!

The MIfflin County 14-year-old all-stars came out pounding the ball Friday night as the host team took the victory in the first day of the Mid-Atlantic Regionals held at Legendary Armagh Field, winning 9-2.

On the mound, Madden Weaver kept the Millburn- Short bats at bay going five innings allowing only one hit and refused to allow a run.

Millburn-Short finished with only two hits in the contest.

Mifflin County feasted on the North New Jersey runner ups pitching pounding out 12 hits.

Reese Christine, Braxton Smith, Jayden Smith all finished with two hits each to lead the MC crew.

Coming off the bench, Bo Reeder blasted a shot that almost went out but he had to settle for an RBI double.

In the first, Weaver struck out 2-of-3 posting three consecutive strike outs.

Playing in front of their home fans, MIfflin County used the energy from the top of the inning and continued it into the bottom of the inning.

With one out, Gavin Powell was hit by a pitch.

Teammate Logan Ruth followed with a walk. Both stole a base, setting the stage for Christine.

Christine sent a sizzler into the left centerfield gap, scoring both Powell and Ruth. He made it safely to second with a double.

Braxton Smith brought in Christine as he sent a laser shot over the third base and into left, upping the lead to a 3-0 contest.

Weaver continued to go ahead of the count and allowed just one runner and that was on an error that allowed Holden Cohn to reach.

Mifflin County was back at it in the third inning, adding three more runs to their lead.

With one out once again, Christine sent a shot into right field.

Braxton Smith followed with a high blooping hit into right field, when the dust settled MIfflin County had runners on second and third.

Christine looked to be in a pickle trying to steal home but he motored his way to the plate and slid safely under the tag.

Nathan Parkey scored Smith on a double of his own, picking up the RBI.

Jayden Smith made it 6-0 when he sent a RBI single back up the middle.

Weaver continued to cruise through the batters as he went into the fourth  sporting a no-hitter.

In the fourth MIfflin County padded its lead adding three more runs.

Michael McNitt reached base on a Millburn-Short miscue.

Powell kept the inning going with a double into left, scoring McNitt.

Powell scored as he stole home.

Logan Ruth followed with a double, setting the stage for the Reeder blast into right center, scoring Ruth easily.

Mifflin County held strong allowing just two runs in the sixth en route to the opening night prime time victory.

They will be back in action Saturday at 7pm back in Milroy.
