MC girls XC split meet against SC and CD

After only 3 days of recovery from Saturday’s invitational, the Mifflin County Girls Cross Country team were back to racing in a double dual meet Tuesday evening. The away meet competition included Central Dauphin (hosts) and State College and was a fight all the way to the end. State College barely took the win over the Lady Huskies, 26-30, but MC came out on top of Central Dauphin, 24-33.
Amilia Coffey took first place against both schools with a time of 23:35, 22 seconds less than 2nd place. Central Dauphin’s Rianna Proctor was leading the race in the first mile but Amilia has run very consistent paces and I knew she could run her down as they moved deeper into the race. I told Amilia to go out and win the race and she did exactly what she needed to do to position things well for the rest of the team.
Our other 4 scorers finished within just over a minute of each other but unfortunately enough State College athletes snuck in between them to barely take the victory. I knew it would be tight and am proud of the great effort the girls put in. Having team members finish close is key to capturing more victories. Now we just need to move our times down to be more competitive against our opponents. I am hopeful they are able to encourage each other to put the work in to accomplish that goal.
Kahlen McCracken (freshman) was our number six and looked really strong tonight setting a new PR and breaking into the 26’s. Cameran Shuey (sophomore) is pushing right up with her and although she didn’t do as well tonight as I know she wanted, I expect she will continue to excel and develop in her first year.
We have a young team and plenty of time to develop for the future! I am excited to see them continue to excel; growing not only in their athletic ability but confidence and believing in themselves. The team is right back in action on Thursday for a make-up meet at home against Central Dauphin East.
