Mifflin County falls just short in battle with Lower Dauphin

LEWISTOWN – The 2-1 Lower Dauphin Falcons traveled to Lewistown to take on the MIfflin County Huskies who also came in with a 2-1 record. The game came down to the wire but there was not enough big plays for the Huskies as the Falcons came out on the winning end, 20-14.

The first points of the game didn’t come until the second quarter when Brandon Fritz connected on a 40-Yard field goal, giving the Falcons a 3-0 Lead.

Mifflin County responded back with a passing touchdown thrown by Landen Eichhorn. Eichhorn connected with Landon Haigh for a 37-yard touchdown grabbing the lead with 5:24 remaining in the first half of play.

“Lower Dauphin executed their offense really well. I’m Proud of our kids it wasn’t their lack of effort. It was a good Ball Game,” said MIfflin County coach Shane Breon. “We need to establish a running game with Deakon, he’s a great running back if we run the ball more it will open up the pass. We got to be balanced and we need to establish him more because he’s a horse.”

On the very next play, senior Tyler Persing responded with a 98-yard kick return for a touchdown. With the score the Falcons jumped in Front 10-7 with 5:05 remaining.

Lower Dauphin wasn’t quite done yet. Gerald Sanders found the end zone with 3:02 to go until the intermission. Sanders and Dakota Sary both had great performances for the Falcons.

On the defensive side for the Huskies , Travis Renninger recorded six Tackles on the night.

Owen Gipe ,Parker Kearns Both recorded a “boat load” of tackles in the loss.

Deakon Schaeffer made an outstanding tackle on special teams limiting a big run by not letting Persing get an away and possibly break loose for another big return. Kearns found success in the passing game catching 3-of-4 of his passes.

The success resulted in a touchdown late with 7:10 remaining in regulation. Eichhorn fired a bullet connecting with the “Multi Sport Athlete” Kearns In double coverage giving the Huskies’ Faithful hope.

Mifflin County stopped the Falcons on a fourth down and two . A swarm of Huskies defenders would get to the Junior Quarterback Carter Burton, stopping him short of the line to gain. It would result in a turnover on downs.

Mifflin County had some hope. The Huskies drove down the field but the comeback bid ended as Fritz picked off Eichhorn’s pass with four seconds remaining.
