Mount Union Dominates Moshannon Valley

MOUNT UNION – The Mount Union Trojans routed the Moshannon Valley Black Knights by the final score of 42-0 during an Inter-County Conference Football matchup Friday night.
After a scoreless first quarter, Mount Union got the offense going starting with Je’Saun Robinson who went from one side to the field, all the way to the other in order to complete an eight yard run for the touchdown.
From then on the floodgates were wide opened as quarterback Bryce Danish caught the Moshannon Valley defense off guard and broke loose with a big 72 yard touchdown run to extend the Trojan lead to 14-0.
Then it became the Josh Ryan show as Ryan ended up scoring two touchdown within the final minutes of the quarter. Ryan first scored came with 2:11 remaining as Ryan powered his way down the field for a 45 yard touchdown run.
With 36 seconds left in the opening half, Ryan struck again and punched in a four yard touchdown run to give Mount Union a 28-0 lead into the break.
Danish put the finishing touches on the game throughout the third quarter. Danish first scored of the period came with 8:38 remaining where he hustled his way downfield to complete the drive with a seven yard touchdown run.
Danish tacked on the final score of the evening with a one yard QB sneak to complete the shutout.
An interesting stat, Danish had more yards on the ground than the Black Knights did on total offense. As for the whole game, Moshannon Valley compiled a total of 142 yards of offense.
In fact the Trojans had out gained the Black Knights in both halves on the ground. Mount Union had 142 yards on the ground in the second half while having 149 yards on the ground in the first half.
Meanwhile Danish had eight carries for 168 yards and three rushing touchdowns. Danish was also completed four passes out of eight attempts for 77 yards.
The Trojans defensively kept the Moshannon Valley offense in check. Not only were the Black Knights held to just 142 yards of total offense, but also kept constant pressure throughout the whole game and created some turnovers.
Two of those turnovers came in the form of interceptions. The first interception came from courtesy of Quartey Williams who prevented a potential touchdown with the interception.
The second one came from Cody McClain who took advantage after a couple of tipped passes where ultimately ended up into the hands of McClain.
The defense also recovered a fumble.
Mount Union moves to (4-1) and will be on the road next week as the Trojans will do battle with the Glendale Vikings. Game time will be 7 p.m.
