Newport drops East Juniata in field hockey action

The East Juniata field hockey team ran into a tough Newport team Thursday night 5-0.
Rachel Bohn tallied three goals for the Buffaloes in the Tri-Valley League victory
In the first half goals came from Rachel Bohn, 26:11; Bohn, 11:23; Bohn, 9:06 and Olivia Muffitt at 4:46.
“The girls played a great second half. They were able to hold Newport to only one goal in the second half. In the first half, nerves took control of the game and the girls ended up playing a lot of defense,” said East Juniata coach Harley Straub. “Also, we had a few scoring chance but were not able to find the back of the net. We learned a lot of things we need to work on for our future games. We will come back Saturday morning and take on Lewisburg in a non-conference game.”
In the second half, Sophia Bianchi scored Newport’s final goal, coming at 16:04.
Newport led in shots on goal 25-1 and corners 19-4.
EJ’s Madi Beward tallied 17 saves.
In the JV Game, East Juniata and Newport battled to a scoreless tie.
East Juniata’s Overall record is 1-3, and the Tri-Valley League record is 1-2.
EJ’s next game is Saturday, September 16th at East Juniata vs. Lewisburg at 10:00.
