Penns Valley tips Roberto Clemente Charter for third place finish

In the consolation game of the Penns Valley Ram Winter Jam, the Penns Valley boys matched up with a hard working group from Roberto Clemente Charter School.

It was a great night for the Rams Logan Snyder, after being held to just six the day before by Bellefonte in the opening round, led all scorers and had over half of his teams 52 points with a 25-point night. He just missed a double-double as he finished with nine rebounds in the 52-28 victory.

But it wasn’t an easy trail to get to the finish line first for the Rams.

The Pirates came out primed and ready for a battle.

The Pirates looked tough early on as they started hot from the three-point line posting three in the opening period. Posting triples were Jason Encarnacion, Axel Avila-Santana and Erick Gutierrez.

Roberto Clemente spread the wealth early on, taking a 13-10 advantage after one.

Snyder and Cole Breon were the only two scorers for Penns Valley in the first.

The visitors continued it up tempo play as it went inside as well as outside.

But the Rams would start to close in on the Pirates as Snyder again kept the pressure offensively in the low post while teammate Caleb Narber chipped in with four, cutting the Roberto Clemente lead to just a one-point, 19-18 advantage as the two went into the intermission.

After some halftime adjustments, the Rams’ offense ignighted for 34 in the second half while its defense held the Pirates to 19.

Snyder led the charge as he went for 15 in the second half as his teammates also started to get into the scoring act.

Defensively, Penns Valley was able to pressure the Pirates outside and refused to let any inside traffic en route to the 52-38 victory.

The win ended up being a third place finish for the host.
