Lavish, Everly, Koch win decisions

The Shippensburg University wrestling team dropped a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) dual meet to the Seton Hill Griffins Wednesday at Sorgenti Arena in Greensburg, 34-9.

The Raiders (1-9, 0-2 PSAC) registered victories by sophomore Anthony Lavish (Fairless Hills, Pa./Conwell Egan), sophomore Kyler Everly (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County) and sophomore Owen Koch (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville).

Lavish trailed Seton Hill’s Nolan Daerr after the first and second periods but climbed his way back with takedowns in the second and third period, the latter of which overtook Daerr for a 7-5 decision.

Everly, like Lavish in the previous bout, erased an early deficit to earn a decision at 157 pounds. Everly reversed Seton Hill’s Christian Hirak after Hirak had scored the initial takedown, then scored a second reversal to take a 4-3 advantage late in the second period. Beginning from the top position in the third, turned Hirak and registered four back points, nearly earning a fall, to take an 8-4 lead. He eventually held on for an 8-7 win.

Koch played front-runner in his match against Seton Hill’s Riley O’Mara at 184 pounds, using his strength and quickness to beat O’Mara during several scrambles in an action-packed 9-4 decision.

For Seton Hill (5-10, 1-6), Matt Frank (125), William Burgess (133), Jacob Gardner (141), Collin Hearn (165), Kane Kettering (174), Brenden Finnerty (197) and Ethan Cain (285) earned victories.

Next up, the Raiders return home for a PSAC dual meet against the Gannon Golden Knights Friday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m.
