State College dominates Altoona en route to D6 title

WINGATE – Primed and ready for action.

It was another night of celebration for the State College boys soccer team and it’s legendary program.

On Wednesday night, the Little Lions went up against Altoona.

At stake was the District 6 Class AAAA title and a chance to play another day.

Coming out calm, cool and collective, State College dominated Altoona in every facet of the game en route to the 7-1 win and another title to add to its illustrious history.

State College went right to work in business like fashion, working the ball around looking for the right time to work the outside.

Using their speed to their advantage, State College scored the first goal of the game with 27:53 when Carson Litzinger lit it up sending one past Altoona’s goalie Luke Mitchell.

Things started to roll right along for State as they were able to control the ball and almost score at will.

Seven minutes later the Little Lions added to their lead when Owen Hollobaugh found teammate David Pagett with a pass and Pagett did not disappoint, upping the lead to 2-0.

The State College defense was also as tough, allowing just two Altoona shots for the half.

With less than five minutes to go in the first, State started to cushion its lead. Jonathan Mwangi scored via an assist from Sam Cheslock, upping it to a 3-0 contest.

But State wasn’t done yet. With 13 ticks left on the clock, State College added an exclamation point to its first half on a unassisted score by Nathan Rockower.

When the dust settled on the first half, State College was in total control leading by four points at the end of the period.

Things didn’t change coming out of the intermission as State continued its ball control offense and stingy defense.

They added two more goals in the half while only allowing a late Altoona goal.

But it was too little too late as the Little Lions rolled to the title.
