State College softball tops Central Dauphin

The State College Lady Lions stole the lead late in the game in a 9-5 victory over Central Dauphin High School on Tuesday.  The game was tied at five with State batting in the bottom of the fifth when Mady Burkey hit a solo homer.

 

State College took an early lead in the first inning.  The Lady Lions scored one run when Meredith Meengs singled.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, State College tied things up at five when Jess Hawbaker doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

The Lady Lions tallied three runs in the sixth inning.  State College batters contributing to the big inning included Maddie Burkey, Olivia McTavish, and Kylee Ehrensberger, all knocking in runs in the inning.

Zia Bodnar pitched State College to victory. Bodnar surrendered three runs on five hits over three innings, striking out one and walking zero.  Harpster threw four innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Wonstock took the loss for Central Dauphin . The hurler surrendered nine runs on 11 hits over six innings, striking out four.

The Lady Lions hit one home run on the day. Burkey had a four bagger in the fifth inning.

State College tallied 11 hits on the day.  Hawbaker and Burkey each had multiple hits for State College Lady Lions Varsity.  Burkey and Hawbaker all had three hits to lead State College.

The Lady Lions didn’t commit a single error in the field. Sydney Wells had the most chances in the field with seven.

The Rams racked up nine hits on the day. Loser and Megan Fisher each managed multiple hits for Central Dauphin High School.  Loser led Central Dauphin with three hits in four at bats.
