Walker wins Webber/Rothrock Award

LEWISTOWN – Known for his leadership and hard work on and off the basketball court, Mifflin County junior Ryan Walker was voted team captain for the Huskies.
He tallied numerous 20-point games during the season and all of his hard work and determination to constantly get better paid off Wednesday night as he was voted the winner of the Harry Rothrock/ Dick Webber Award that is awarded from Big Lewie/ WMRF/ WIEZ radio stations. The award, selected by the local media, recognizes the best boys basketball player in Mifflin County.
“I was really excited when I heard. I hope I would win it,” Walker said. “I worked hard all season and was assisted by my teammates and my coaches. It was a great feeling.”
Walker selflessness was very evident as he credited his family and coaches for where he is and where he wants to be as a player.
“I worked so hard with the help of my dad (Kevin Walker). He has pushed me the hardest of anyone and him and coach Sheetz are the two that helped me get to where I am today,” Walker added. “I have been playing since I was five years old. I’ve always had a love for basketball.”
His coach, Dave Sheetz is excited on what potential the junior will bring to the table in his senior campaign with an off season to finely tune his game.
“His leadership has really taken off. He has really worked on his game hard and has really improved on the physical end of it.
He’s really working at his game really well and he is always improving day in and day out,” said Sheetz. “I’m anxious to see what he does as a senior and I think things will work out great for him.
Walker is the son of Kevin and Chris Walker.
He is not only tough on the basketball court but he is also a member of the baseball team that is looking to repeat as District 6 champions.
