Bald Eagle advances to next round of team duals, tops Indians
WINGATE – Tuesday night belonged to the Eagles.
Hosting the first round of the District 6 team duals, the number one seeded Bald Eagle Area’s wrestling team showed why they were the number one seed in the second round of the District 6 Class AA team duals.
Opening with a first round d bye, the Eagles had to wait for the winner of the opening round match of Juniata versus Central.
Advancing to battle the Eagles was a very feisty Juniata team who topped the Dragons 35-33.
But the Bald Eagle matmen dominated in their match up against the Indians, winning 58-6.
“We wrestled well tonight. We are trying to build momentum just to Saturday and look sharp. Taking it one match at a time and not look ahead,” said Bald Eagle Area coach Ron Guenot. “If you do that good things will happen.”
Picking up wins for the Indians were
139-pounder Ryder Smith. Smith took a 3-1 decision over Connor Maney. SV and 215-pound Kelton Bonnell, as he muscled out a 2-1 decision over Gage Gardner.
The match started at 121. Caden Judice picked up tech fall over Joey Bomberger,17-0 at 6:00. Judice
In the fastest win of the night 127-pounder Lucas Fye, pinned Cody Nipple in just :11.
At 133 Dawson Lomison, found himself in a battle with Colten Rowles.
Rowles got the advantage first as he was able to hit on a shoot on Lomison, but a reversal by Lomison tied the contest.
Juniata took back the advantage when Rowles was able to work his way free and tallying an escape in the process. Lomison took back the lead as he was able to take control of Rowles and pick up the take down, making it 4-3
From there, Lomison added a takedown and an escape en route to the 7-3 victory.
Mason Reese, added to the Bald Eagles pins as he was able to Jerry Cordova at 1:52in the 145-pound weight class. Reese took Cordova down on the mat and worked him around and was able to put him on his back which led to the pin.
Gavin Bennett, took control of his match early and never let up posting a tech fall over Charlie Telfer at 17-2 at 5:24 mark at 152.
160-pounder Cameron Dubbs pinned the Indians Gunner Wolsagle at 3:08.
At 172, the Eagles picked up another pin when Shawn Knepp was able to ware down Javier Lopez, pinning him at 1:10.
Juniata’s Harrison Mummah put up quite a fight against Caleb Close at 189 before being pinned BEA pinned at 3:13.
At 285, the Bald Eagles’ Eric Clark used a second period escape and takedown to defeat Christian Lopez, by a 3-0 decision.
It was an easy Eagle win at 107 as Michael Westley won by forfeit.
Finishing off the match in style, 114-pounder Tanner Guenot pinned Anthony Maradiaga, 2:19. Guenot picked up an early takedown.
Maradiaga was able to get back to his feet and pick up an escape, cutting it to a 2-1 contest. As quick as Maradiaga was up, Guenot was able to pick up another take down. Before the first period was over, Guenot had an 8-1 advantage. He opened the second in the down position but escaped and immediately picked up a take down and then the pin, ending the scoring and the match.
Bald Eagle will be back in action next Saturday as they will advanced to the next level of the Duals, getting closer to a chance at making it to the championship match.
