Bald Eagle shines in its home opener, dropping 50 points

WINGATE – An opening night delight!

The Bald Eagle Area football gave its fans all they could ask for in more in its home opener against North Penn Mansfield Friday night, dropping the Panthers 50-7.

The Eagles scored in all phases of the game, scoring on not only offense but punt return, kick return and even on defense where they notched a saftey.

Special teams were highlighted by Owen Irvin’s 52-yard punt return and an 80-yard kick off return to open the second half.

Passing-wise Bald Eagle got a strong effort from Carson Nagle who hit Cameron Watkins twice for touchdowns, hitting on a 67-yard and a 18-yard hook up.

Running back Garrett Burns went for 97-yards on the ground and three touchdowns to go with it.

“Last week we were close a lot of opportunities against a very good football team. We felt like we let the game slip away. Today we wanted to come out and make a statement,” said Bald Eagle coach Jesse Nagle. “And the kids came out from the get go.”

Early in the first quarter, the Eagles got things off and running as Nagle hit Watkins on a 67-yard short pass that allowed Watkins to break the secondary and blaze his way downfield. With the Kaden Burns kick, the Eagles held a 7-0 advantage.

Despite moving the ball on the Panthers, the first quarter remained 7-0.

Things heated up in the second for Bald Eagle Area as they scored five different times in the period.

Nagle and Watkins hooked up once again as Watkins would make a diving catch for the touchdown.

With 9:23 left in the half, the Eagles led 14-0.

After forcing the Panthers to another 3-and-out,Bald Eagles found the end zone once again.

It would be a blocked punt by the special teams play, that would give the Eagles the ball at the one.

Burns muscled his way in from one yard out, upping the score to 20-0 when the PAT failed.

The defense got its name into the scorebook when they pinned the Panthers down and in the end zone, posting a saftey.

The defense had its A-game going in the first half, holding the Panthers to just one first down and kept them to just two yards of total offense.

With only 15 ticks left on the clock,

Irvin made his way into the end zone as he took a punt return for 52 yards.

As the two teams went into the intermission, the Eagles were dominating 36-0 advantage.
