Bald Eagle softball finishes season as PIAA state runner ups, falls to Everett

Looking to add to their lore!

Making its seventh appearance to the PIAA State finals, the Bald Eagle Area softball team was looking to add another win to its legendary program.

Though they didn’t get the win Thursday, the Eagles finished the season as PIAA runner up in Class AA.

In there was a tough group from Everett looking to make a name for itself on the softball diamond.

The Warriors came in with a perfect record of 25-0.

It would be a nail biter from start to the top of the as Everett notched the 12-1 victory.

Everett was led offensively by McKenna Richards who finished a perfect 4-for-4 with an 4 RBI.

Bald Eagle Area hurler Sierra Albright faced off against Everett’s

Olivia Hilliegas.

Hillegas had a strong performance striking out eight. 

In the fifth, Everett had built the bases loaded with one out and played two on a miscue by the Eagles scoring two. That would lead to an offensive explosion for the Warriors, ending in a 5-0 lead.

Despite being down, the Lady Eagles picked up a run when Rachel Bryan smashed a home run that bounced off the inside of the foul line.

Offensively, the Warriors added

Albright started off the contest well striking out lead off hitter Chloe Price.

Ava Stere made it two outs diving from first catching a fly ball.

Hilligas blasted the first hit of the game hitting a shot into left field for a double.

But always cool under pressure, Albright struck out Kirstin Feathers to get out of the inning.

Kailey Eckert got the Eagles started off on the right foot, blasting a ground rule double.

However, she would stranded, sending the game into the second.

In the second, the Warriors were threatening. McKenna Richards opened the inning with a single between short and third. She moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Marissa Hillegas.

Addison Wood moved her over on a fielders choice.

But she was stranded at third as Albright struck out Ava Weicht to get out of the inning.

Olivia Hillegas had her stuff working, keeping Bald Eagle in check in the bottom of the second.

Everett started hot in the third.

With one out, Price was hit by a pitch and moved to second on an infield hit by Jade Colledge.

The Bald Eagle defense got the out they needed, keeping the game a scoreless tie going into the bottom of the inning.

Kendra Uberti got the third inning going for Bald Eagle with a walk.

But much like their counterparts the Warriors were also tough on defense.

Everett ended the year with a perfect 26-0 season while Bald Eagle Area falls to 20-3.
