Bald Eagle tops PO in Mountain League showdown

MILESBURG – It’s the game that both Mountain League softball teams traditionally have circled on their calendar every year.

Tuesday afternoon, Bald Eagle hosted the always tough Philipsburg-Osceola Mounties.

Despite a leadoff home run by Philipsburg’s Jordan McDonald, the Lady Eagles were able to prevail 4-1.

Hurler Madison Peters had another strong performance in her second game in as many days, striking out four and scattering six hits while going the distance.

Pitching tough in the loss was Karissa Taylor who also struck out four and giving up six hits.

Offensively, the Eagles were led by multiple hitters Autumn Tobias (2-for-3 2RBIs.

Also picking up hits for Bald Eagle were Peters, McKena Baney, Ava Stere and Meghan  King.

The Mounties got a 3-for-3 effort from McDonald who also had the team’s lone RBI.

Other notching out hits on the day were MyKenna Bryan, Jocey Williams and Abby Vaux.

In the first, with one swing of the bat McDonald roped a towering shot over the centerfield, taking a 1-0 advantage.

From there Peters settled in and got the Lady Mounties down in order the rest of the inning.

Bald Eagle Area picked some two-out lightning as Eva Stere took one for the team as she was hit by pitch.

Peters helped her own cause as she smoked a double into centerfield, scoring Stere on the play.

King kept the inning alive as she was hit by a pitch, setting the stage for Tobias.

Tobias smashed a 2RBI double into centerfield, giving the Lady Eagles a 3-1 advantage.

Both teams went down in order in the second.

Baney started the third inning with a single to left centerfield.

With two outs, Baney was thrown out trying to steal but was gunned down by Mounties Williams to end the inning.

Williams also picked up a tag at the plate when King tried to score on a single by Tobias.

Bald Eagle added an insurance run in the fifth en route to the 4-1 victory.
