Bald Eagle volleyball advances to title tilt

WINGATE – Monday, Two rivals met up in the opening round of District 6 playoffs when Bellefonte traveled to Bald Eagle Area.

The night would belong to the Eagles as they defeated the Red Raiders 3-0 (25-9, 25-12,25-17).

However, the Red Raiders battled throughout and got stronger as the night went on.

But the Lady Eagles had their best game of the season according to Bald Eagle coach Zach Rote.

“This is their best game of the season. I guess they saved for the right time of year, that’s for sure,” said Rote. “We devised a game plan, they bought into it and they executed perfectly tonight.”

In the first game, Bald Eagle got off to a sizzling start, posting an early 5-0 advantage. In that run, it would be Olivia Boone that picked up four service points in the run. She notched an ace and two no returns.

Bellefonte bounced back with two consecutive points. Picking up a service point was Keira Clarkson. Clarkson picked up the point thanks to a spike by Carlee Pepperman.

Back rallied the Eagles as they would go on a 6-0 run, making it an 11-2 advantage. Picking up five service points in the run was Ava Stere.

After exchanging side outs, Bald Eagle went on a mini run of four, three service points were scored by Taylor Hall.

Bellefonte would cut it to 10 before the Eagles would up the lead to 15 with six service points by Peightin Brownson.

Despite trying to make a late run, it wouldn’t be enough as the Red Raiders would fall, 25-9.

Bellefonte got off to a strong start in game two, posting an early 5-0 advantage, starting the game off strong the Lady Raiders got the ball after a spike by Clarkson.

“We’ve lost games this where we didn’t look that good. We didn’t give up tonight. We stayed in it. We still competed,” said Bellefonte coach Monica Smith said. “We celebrated every point that we earned. I have to give it to them Bald Eagle played a really good game. They played clean. They played aggressive. They got the better of us tonight.”

From there Bellefonte got some strong serves from Aubrey Schreppel,who posted four consecutive service points.

Bald Eagle started to edge its way back in the contest, posting consecutive points.

After exchanging side outs, the Lady Eagles again chipped into the lead and then some, going on an 8-0 run to take the lead for the first time in the contest.

Leading that run from the service line was Taylor Hall, who posted seven service points.

Bald Eagle would keep the lead and finish off the contest with eight service points by Olivia Boone, making it a 2-0 advantage by winning 25-12.

In the final contest, Bellefonte battled tough, keeping it close before falling 25-17 giving the Eagles the match.

Bald Eagle will be back in action Wednesday at Tyrone high school against Hollidaysburg in the District 6 championship game.
