Bellefonte 11/12s move on; defeat Penns Valley 8-0

By Kenny Varner BELLEFONTE – The long ball proved to be just what the doctor ordered for the Bellefonte 11/12 year olds as they topped Centre County rivals Penn’s Valley in the District 5 second tier contest. In the end, Bellefontes offense went onto an 8-0 victory. Picking up the win on the mound for Bellefonte was Seth Shuey. The action started early offensively for the home team as they picked up two runs via the long ball in the first. Shuey and his defense sent Penn’s Valley down in order and then went to work. Dylan Dann sent an offering deep into center field for a solo home run. Shuey helped his own cause as he took a 2-out pitch and blasted a homer, upping the lead to 2-0. Shuey was strong on the mound as well, bending but not breaking, pitching his way out of some clutch situations and remaining unscathed. Bellefonte added another run in the second thanks to Nick Capparelle, who led things off with a double and proceeded to steal third and then home, making it 3-0. The “Red and White” added yet another run in the quick moving bottom of the fourth. Bobby Marsh led things off with a double then quickly scored when Shuey roped an RBI double, upping the lead to 4-0. Then the rain and lightning hit the field delaying the game for some time. However, that didn’t keep Bellefonte from making one last exclamation point on the game. A late grand slam by Shuey ended the contest at 8-0. With the win, Bellefonte advances on while Penns Valley’s season comes to an end.
