Bellefonte baseball falls to Tyrone in Thursday action

The Bellefonte Red Raiders fell behind early and couldn’t come back in an 11-5 loss to Tyrone on Thursday. The Eagles scored on a double by Ross Gaupe in the first inning, a fielder’s choice in the first inning, a single by David Lang in the second inning, and a home run by Aiden Coleman in the second inning.

Trevor Johnson drove in four runners in the loss. Johnson drove in runs on a home run in the fourth and a double in the fifth.

Tyrone opened up scoring in the first inning, when Gaupe doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs.

Bellefonte put up three runs in the fifth inning. The offensive firepower by the Red Raiders was led by Johnson and Levi Purnell, all driving in runs in the inning.

Tyrone scored three runs in the second inning. The big inning for Tyrone came thanks to a single by Lang and a home run by Coleman.

Zach LeGars led the Eagles to victory on the pitcher’s mound. The ace allowed six hits and five runs over four and a third innings, striking out two. Luke Brooks threw two and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Peyton Vancas took the loss for the Red Raiders. The righthander allowed ten hits and eight runs over three innings, striking out two and walking zero.

Bellefonte tallied one home run on the day. Johnson put one out in the fourth inning.

The Red Raiders tallied 11 hits. Johnson, Alexander Ebeling, and Josh Brown all managed multiple hits for Bellefonte.

Johnson went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Red Raiders in hits. Bellefonte didn’t commit a single error in the field. Triston Heckman had the most chances in the field with six.

Tyrone racked up 17 hits on the day. LeGars, Lang, Nick Lehner, Brooks, and Ashton Walk each had multiple hits for the Eagles. LeGars led Tyrone with four hits in four at bats.
