Bellefonte battled but Selinsgrove too much for Red Raiders boys LAX team

BELLEFONTE – On a night that the Bellefonte boys lacrosse team was celebrating their seniors, the Selinsgrove Seals played the role of the unwelcomed guest as they spoiled things for the Red Raiders.

However, despite being down early in the contest, Bellefonte would battle to the bitter end, scoring a goal at the final buzzer.

But the veteran-laden Selinsgrove team outscored the Red Raiders Monday, 18-4.

Picking up two of the Bellefonte goals was Rider Hamilton.

Others notching goals for the Red Raiders were Tyler Putnam and Shea Chapman.

Selinsgrove got a 6-goal effort from Garrett Howell to lead his team in scoring on the night.

Ty Ritter finished with a hat trick, posting a 3-goal effort while teammate Aaron Rothermel finished with two.

With the buzzer about to sound in the fourth quarter Shea Chapman sizzled one past the Selinsgrove goalie, showing the Red Raiders went down firing.

Bellefonte’s goalie Shawn Clampet had 12 saves on the night.

Selinsgrove goalie Kevin Gearhart had seven.

The game was a very physical one as both teams battled throughout.

Three Selinsgrove shots early were stopped by Clampet.

But after facing constant pressure on the Red Raider goal, the Seals scored its first goal at the 11-minute mark. Val Barillaro blasted a shot as he busted through the middle of the Bellefonte defense.

Selinsgrove continued to crack the perimeter of the Bellefonte defense, going on a 3-0 from there. Posting goals in the run were Rothermel, Jake Keeney and Howell.

Bellefonte broke onto the scoreboard

When Tyler Putnam strong inside in traffic at 8:53, cutting it to a 4-1 contest.

Three minutes later, the Seals found themselves on the scoreboard when Rothermel hit his second goal of the game making it a 5-1 contest with 5:29 still left in the opening quarter.

Powell put Selinsgrove 6-1  just less than two minutes later at 4:04.

At the End of the first, Selinsgrove held an 8-1 advantage.

Things continued to roll for the Seals from there going on a 6-0 run.

Trailing 14-1, Bellefonte’s Hamilton gave the Red Raiders their second goal posting a goal at the 1:02 mark, making it 14-2.

Bellefonte was able to hold Selinsgrove two only two third quarter goals, leading 16-2 going into the final stanza.

Halftime

Holding the 18-3 lead, Bellefonte notched the goal, to make it an 18-4 contest.
