Bellefonte Clings To Victory As Philipsburg-Osceola Nearly Erase 7-Run Deficit

Despite seeing their 7-run lead whittled down by the end, the Bellefonte baseball team still held off for an 8-6 victory on Monday. Philipsburg-Osceola closed the gap by scoring on a ground out, a single, an error, a double, and a sacrifice fly.

The Red Raiders got on the board in the top of the first inning after Levi Purnell singled, Jacob Corman walked, and Ryan Fraley walked, each scoring one run.

Bellefonte  added to their early lead in the top of the third inning when an error scored one run, Trevor Johnson doubled, scoring two runs, and Peyton Vancas singled, scoring one run.

The Red Raiders scored one run in the top of the fourth on a solo home run to center field by Oliver Thornburg.

Braedyn Kormanic earned the win for Bellefonte . They allowed five hits and three runs over four innings, striking out three and walking none. Zach Yoder took the loss for the Mounties. The starting pitcher went two and one-third innings, allowing seven runs (six earned) on two hits, striking out two and walking seven.

Johnson collected the save. Vancas appeared in relief for Bellefonte.

Johnson went 1-for-2 at the plate as the leadoff hitter led the team with two runs batted in. Vancas and Thornburg each collected two hits for the Red Raiders. Bellefonte had a strong eye at the plate, amassing eight walks for the game. Josh Brown, Johnson, and Fraley led the team with two walks each.

Bellefonte turned one double play in the game.
