Carson: MC Huskies matmen shine at Neil Turner Invite

LANCASTER—Mifflin County’s Parker Kearns captured the 152-pound championship to lead the local contingent at the Neil Turner Memorial Holiday Classic on Saturday.

Kearns, who won his title after Pittston’s Julian Everitt took a medical forfeit, led the area and their 14 wrestlers who made the podium.

In addition to Kearns, the Huskies had seven medal winners: Deakon Schaeffer (160) took third, while Gaven Mickey (189) placed fourth. Avery Aurand (172) finished in fifth, Kamden Everly (133) sixth, Paxton Shawver (114), and Colby Seiler (145) came in seventh, and Andrew Alexander (107) was eighth.

Mifflin County finished second in the team standings with 163.5 points. Central Dauphin won the tournament with a score of 169.5.

Bellefonte and Philipsburg-Osceola had three wrestlers each making the podium. The Mounties got a second-place finish from Marcus Gable at 145, while Ace Foster (121) came in seventh, and Connor Guenot (114) was eighth.

The Red Raiders had a fourth from Noah Weaver (145) and two fifths from Wyatt Long (107) and Ezra Swisher (139).

Kearns rolled to the finals with a technical fall, a fall, a major decision, and a 5-2 win over Gavin Reynolds of Central Dauphin in the semifinals. The Husky senior, ranked fifth in the state, is now 12-2 on the season and 84-28 in his career.

Gable (10-2) collected a pin, tech fall, and a major to reach the semis, where he took care of Central Dauphin’s Liam Flanagan 9-1. In the finals, Central York’s Elias Long had a takedown in the first and third period for the 5-2 win over Gable.

P-O was without the services of state-ranked Caleb Hummel.

In the battle for third place, Schaeffer secured a decisive 6-1 decision over Luke Needham from Conestoga Valley. Meanwhile, Hayden Moaney of Delaware Military Academy narrowly defeated Gavin Mickey by an 8-6 decision. Moaney broke a 6-6 tie with a reversal in the third.

Finally, Teagan Ruble of Conestoga Valley escaped in the third and made it hold up in a 3-2 decision over Weaver for third place.

The fifth-place matches saw mixed outcomes for Mifflin County. Luke Morley from Conestoga Valley pinned Everly in 1:58. However, Aurand got the win over Coy Bryson from Montgomery 4-0.

Bellefonte went a perfect 2-0 in fifth-place matches, with Longbeating Exter’s Cole Forsythe 6-4 and Swisher taking care of Seth Karpulk from Tulpehocken 7-0.

Shawver and Seiler won their bouts for seventh, with the Husky freshman winning a 4-2 decision over Guenot, and Seiler picked up a forfeit victory over Tulpehocken’s Jonathan McQuillen. Alexander, another MC freshman, dropped a 6-4 match to Nathaniel Handy of Delone Catholic and placed eighth.

Foster won his last bout of the day with a 4-1 victory over New Oxford’s Tristan Camacho for seventh.

Bellefonte finished 15th in the team standings with 80.5 points. The Mounties were one behind in 16th with 75 points.
