East Juniata holds off Central Columbia

The East Juniata Girls Soccer team got its week started on a positive note as it defeated Central Columbia 2-1.
Despite falling behind 1-0 early on, the Lady Tigers rolled back with two unanswered goals to take the 2-1 victory.
Central got on board first when Veronica Roebuck with 38:30 showing on the opening period. She was assisted by Maura Lundy on the play.
The Tigers refused to go away and came back East Juniata’s Kierstyn Fogle, a freshmen, tied the game at 27:25 when she scored via an assist by Maddison Coudriet off a corner kick.
In the second half, Hailey Swartz, a Junior, scored the winning goal at 71:45 thanks to an assist by Thea Neimond.
East Juniata finished with 22 shots on goals while Central Cambria had nine.
The Tigers goalie Lily Sankey had one save.
“We continue to struggle to play to our potential. We still have work to do on decision making,” said East Juniata coach Valeria Dressler said. “We just need to mentally be ready to play and continue to play for the full 80 minutes.”
With the win, East Juniata improved to an overall 2-1 record and a 1-0 record in the Tri-Valley League.
