East Juniata split track and field season opener

Boys: East Juniata 87, Midd-West 70, Meadowbrook Christian 19
Girls: Midd-West 83, East Juniata 37, Meadowbrook Christian 21

MIDDLEBURG – The East Juniata Tigers split their first track and field meet of the season in their Tri-Meet with Midd-West and Meadowbrook Christian Monday afternoon. The boys came out victorious while the girls finished second in their respective meets.

For the boys teams, it was the Tigers who came out on top with final scores of East Juniata 87, Midd-West 70 and Meadowbrook Christian 19.

On the field events, it was Jake Brackbill who led the way among the scoring leaders with 13 points. On the track, Logan Strawser and Rowan Smith tied for second with each scoring 10 points for the afternoon.

Brackbill took first place in both Discus and Javelin events throwing 128 feet and 10 inches in the discus, while throwing 143 feet and eight inches in the javelin.

Strawser won both the 1600 and 3200 meter run events with a time of 11:01.7 in the 3200 while edging out Meadowbrook Christian’s Jude Sterling by six tenths of a second in the 1600 race.

Smith placed first in three events, winning in the high jump at five feet six inches, the 110 hurdles at a time of 16.80 seconds and the 300 hurdles at 43 seconds just barely defeating teammate Josef Book who finished with a time of 43.90.

For the Mustangs, the boys were led by Nick Epply on the field with 10 points and Owen Solomon on the track with 15 points.

Epply placed first in long jump at 17 feet and nine and a quarter inches. Epply also won the triple jump at 37 feet and two inches.

Solomon won three events for Midd-West starting with the 100 meter dash at 11.30 seconds, then in the 400 meter run at 53.80 seconds and also in the 200 meter dash in 24 seconds flat.
The Mustangs also won in both the 1600, 400 and 3200 relay events as well.

For the girls, the Mustangs came out on top winning with 83 points while East Juniata had 37 and the Lions scored 21 total points.

Tayla Schreffler and Alyssa Heckman led the Mustangs in the field events tying for first place in points scored with each getting 10 points. Camyrn Pyle placed first in scoring in the track events with 10.

Pyle came in first place in both the 100 and 300 hurdle events with a time of 16.70 seconds in the 100 and 52.10 seconds in the 300.

Heckman won the triple jump event at 31 feet and six inches. She also placed first in the long jump at 13 feet and six and a half inches.

For the Tigers, the girls were led by Cypress Feltman in the field events with eight points while Addy Feltman had five points in the track events.

Cypress Feltman placed first in the javelin throwing 93 feet and two inches and was second in the discus at 71 feet and five inches.

Addy Feltman won the 800 meter run event with a time of 2:52.1.

Midd-West travels to Selinsgrove on Saturday while East Juniata will host the Greenwood Wildcats on Thursday.
