EJ field hockey ties Muncy

Taking a turn in the right direction.

The East Juniata field hockey team posted a 3-3 tie Tuesday night against Muncy.

In the first half,

Muncy scored first on a Brooke Rishel goal off an assist by Ariana Copeland at 28:18.

Teammate Hallie McClure, made it 2-0 at 14:03 left in the first half.

East Juniata battled back in the second half.

Kyli Dowling  cut the Muncy lead in half at 29:24

But Muncy battled back when McClure scored on an Isabelle Gush assist at 25:32.

East Juniata’s Karli Owens once again brought her team to cut the lead in half at 2-1 thanks to a pass by Lilly Palm at 20:02.

With time running down in the contest, Dowling tied things at 6:08.

“The girls played well in the second half and came back and tied up the game after being down 2-0 at halftime.  The girls played their hearts out and left everything on the field, despite keeping a tie,” said East Juniata coach Harley Straub. “The girls started passing a lot more and looking for their teammates. I have to compliment the whole team on the overtime period and holding Muncy off.  We missed a lot of opportunities, but that happens.  We’re looking to carry the momentum to Thursday when we host Line Mountain.”

Muncy led on shots on goal by a 25- 13 margin. They also led in corners by a 16-15 edge.

 Saves EJ’s Emily Carolus had nine saves while Muncy’s Alaina Brelsford and Brandi Hitesman combined for seven saves.

In the JV Game, Muncy won 2-0.

East Juniata’s Overall record is 0-5-1 and a League record: 0-4.  

The Tigers’ next game is Thursday when EJ hosts Line Mountain at 4:00 p.m.
