Four-Peat for SU Women’s Swimming

SCRANTON, Pa. – It’s a four-peat for the Susquehanna women’s swimming
& diving team as the Crusaders captured their fourth-straight Landmark
Conference championship on Sunday night.

SU earned first place with 718
points to easily edge a second-place Scranton team that finished with 574.5
points. Susquehanna led after the first two days of competition and used a solid
showing on Sunday to easily clinch the title. SU’s senior class now leaves the
program with four championships to its credit.

The weekend’s final
session began when Caroline Henderson
(Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) captured third in the 1650 free
with her career-best time of 18:34.31

Susquehanna took the top two spots
in the 200 back as Lexi Cole (Danville,
Pa./Danville Area) won the event with a time of 2:08.79 and Erin McElwee (Phoenixville,
Pa./Phoenixville Areaw) was just one second behind with a second-place time
of 2:09.74 with McElwee’s time marking a PR.

The 100 free saw Kyle Seaman (Moreland Hills,
Ohio/Orange) swim to a third-place finish (54.55) with teammate Annie Bruxelles (Hockessin, Del./Sanford
School) in sixth (56.36 – a PR).

Kelsey Lessard (Chestertown, Md./Queen
Anne’s County) was fourth overall in the 200 breaststroke with a time of
2:29.70, a PR and the second-best mark in program history.

Meanwhile, in
the 200 fly, Ashlee Weingarten
(Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) clinched first with her time of 2:12.48, a
PR and also the second-best mark in the SU record books.

With the
championship all but formally clinched, the women ended the weekend with a
third-place finish in the 400 free relay as Lessard, Cole, Julia Doherty (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham
Memorial) and Seaman combined to post a time of 3:39.28.
