LEWISTOWN – In his first game as the new head coach of the MIfflin County baseball team, Ray Hoppel watched his team pick up the hard fought 5-4 win in dramatic fashion over Upper Dauphin Monday at the Mifflin County baseball complex.
Tye Plank led the offensive attack as he opened up the season with three RBIs and two hits in the victory.
Landen Eichhorn scored twice for the Huskies.
Trailing 4-3 in their final at bats, MIfflin County dug in and battled its way to manufacture two runs.
With two outs and their backs against the wall, Eichhorn was cool under pressure posting a single into left.
With Plank at the plate, Eichhorn stole second. Plank tied the contest at four singling in Eichhorn.
Plank was replaced on the base paths by JP Pannizzo. Pannizzo reached second on a past ball setting the stage for Jayden Smith. Smith was up to the challenge as he roped the game winning single, scoring Pannizzo.
Central Dauphin opened the contest plating a run in the first.
Mifflin County tied things in the fourth.
With the bases loaded and only one out, Tucker Gill walks to knot things at one.
However, CD added three in the top of the fifth, taking back the lead.
The Huskies battled back with two of their own in the bottom of the inning, adding to the late seventh inning drama.
