Juniata Boys Cross Country Team Take TVAA League Win at St. Joseph. Girls Take Second in Extreme Heat Conditions.

The Juniata boys cross country team scored 28 points to win against Susquenita with 44 points, St. Joseph with 71 points, and Newport with 81 points on Wednesday, September 6 in Boalsburg.  The Indians were led by junior Wyatt Stroup in 1st place with a time of 19:25.7.  Junior Wesley Ehrisman came in shortly after in 3rd place with a time of 19:43.7.  He was followed by junior Joey Bomberger in 4th place with a time of 19:57.5.  Rounding out the scoring for the Indians was junior Teagan Trout in 11th place with a time of 22:05.6 and sophomore Ricky Guante in 13th with a time of 22:16.8.  Freshman Coy Kerstetter finished 14th with a time of 22:19.4.  Junior Charlie Telfer ran to a 24th place finish in a time of 27:08.7.  Freshman Joel Hardin came in right behind in 25th place with a time of 27:20.2. Juniata Coach Jeff Miller said “We were just glad to get this meet in with no one getting heat exhaustion.  Real feel temperatures were close to 100 degrees at the start of the race and there was no shade on the course.”
The Juniata girls took 2nd with 42 points behind St.Joseph with 21 points.  Newport was 3rd with 57 points.  Juniata freshman Sylvia Brubaker won the girls race with a time of 22:14.7.  She was followed by junior Jessie Bomberger in 7th place in a time of 26:32.7.  Rounding out the scoring for the Indians were freshman Hannah Book in 16th place with a time of 31:40.2, Izabella Sanders in 17th place in a time of 31:49.0, and Jordana Steffen in 21st place in a time of 37:37.2.  Juniata Coach Jeff Miller said “Like the boys, I was thankful no one ran into major problems in this extreme heat.  These girls did what they could with the conditions.  They will appreciate fall weather for training and racing when it gets here.”
