DUNCANNON — Juniata took care of business in the second half and defeated Susquenita 19-3 in football action Friday night.
With this victory, the Indians ended a three game winning streak for the Blackhawks.
There was only one score in the opening quarter which was by running back Heath Hutchinson who busted out a massive 32 yard run for the touchdown.
The Blackhawks scored their only points for the night during the second quarter as Susquenita had gotten a 26 yard field goal to make it 7-3 heading into the break.
A lot of the issues that were plaguing both teams were costly penalties that prevented any momentum for their respective to put up anymore points.
It appeared as though it was going to be a scoreless third period before the Indians finally made a run toward the endzone with under five minutes to play with Aaron Kanagy finishing off the drive with a quarterback sneak into the endzone.
Then in the fourth quarter, the Juniata offense was driving down the field again looking to put the game away but Kanagy’s pass was intercepted near the endzone.
Susquenita looked to take advantage of the Juniata turnover only to have a turnover of its own as a fumble had occurred and was recovered by senior linebacker Makih Hunt.
Not long after that, the Indians made the Blackhawks pay for the turnover, as Kanagy called his own number and flew down the sideline and completed a 41 yard run for his second rushing score but failed to get the two point conversion.
The final big play of the game came from one Caleb Smith as the Susquenita offense came out aggressive trying to keep the game within reach. Quarterback Drew Gibney launched the ball in the endzone only for Smith to come up with the Interception that sealed the deal for Juniata.
Juniata (7-3) now awaits for the District playoffs.
