Juniata girls topped rival EJ in home contest
MIFFLINTOWN – The Juniata girls basketball team continues to show its lockdown defense and Thursday was no exception.
In its annual rivalry game, the Lady Indians hosted its rival East Juniata in a TVAA battle.
Juniata would have the Tigers number on this night, defeating East Juniata 42-16.
Regan Lowery and teammate Mariska Beward led all scorers with an 12-point and 11-point effort, respectively.
The Tigers got an 8-point effort by Landyn Cramer.
Juniata opened the contest outscoring East Juniata 8-2 after the first quarter of play.
In the second, the Lady Indians opened up their offense posting a 16-point period while its defense clamped down to hold the Tigers scoreless.
When the two teams went into the intermission Juniata held a 24-2 advantage.
Offensively, East Juniata bounced back in the third, posting 11 points.
However, the Indians posted 14.
In an abbreviated final stanza, Juniata outscored their rival 4-3 for the victory.
