MEADVILLE – Sweet, Sweet victory!!

Starting the 2023 season, the Juniata football team went head-to-head against the best of the best in PIAA high school football action.

That would be the launching pad for what would be a historic season for “Big Red” that would see the Indians advance to the second round of PIAA State Competition, topping Meadville 21-7 Friday night.

For the Indians it would be sweet revenge on the team that had gotten the best of them the previous two years.

The contest was never that close.

Defensively, the Indians got the scoring started, posting a second quarter safety.

Meadville bounced back, taking the early lead when Brighton Anderson picked up a 77-yard fumble recovery and scoring on it.

But the rest of the night belonged to the Indians as Juniata scored on a Wyatt Ehrenzeller launch to Connor Boreman for a 47-yard trip to the house, making it a 9-7 contest. Boreman led the air attack with 57-yards receiving while Ehrenzeller threw for over 110.

The two would go into the intermission with the underdogs leading 9-7.

In the third quarter, Ehrenzeller called his own number extending the Indians lead to 15-7 on a 7-yard scamper.

The Juniata defense took over the rest of the second half, heading into the final stanza with the 8-point advantage.

Juniata finished off the contest as it added an insurance touch in the fourth.

Again the ball would be taken by Ehrenzeller as he capped off a scoring drive from yard out, clinching the victory for “Big Red”.

Now the rematch!

Juniata will try to add to its list of revenge as they match up with Selinsgrove, the team that helped the Indians mold into the battling team they were early in the season.
