Juniata rolls over Golden Eagles

The Juniata Indians not only took on the Tyrone Golden Eagles, but the heavy cold wind as well as they defeated both by the final score of 7-0 in Friday tennis action.

Sophomore Adam French represented Juniata as their number one single as he took on Nick Lewis of Tyrone.

In the first set both French and Lewis traded shots with one another where one shot could make all the difference. And ultimately it was French who found the winning point as he came out on top in both sets by the final score of 6-3 in each set.

Gavin Kint then competed against the Golden Eagles’ Dean Grassi in the second singles match up. The junior Kint was able to keep the pressure on Grassi and because of that, Kint was able to win in straight sets winning the first 6-2 before taking the second 6-1.

Jack Strawser defeated Andrew Savino in the third singles winning the first set by the final score of 6-3 before closing the match out with a 6-1 victory.

Emmitt Hibbs found himself in a tough battle with Kelton Raabe. After Hibbs came out and won the first set 6-4, Raabe fired back to take the second set 6-3 to force a third and final set. In the third Hibbs left no doubt on the court, taking down Raabe 6-0 to win the fourth singles match.

Xane Whitesel got to compete in his first singles match for the Indians. Whitesel went one on one with Will Grot. Whitesel was able to complete the win in the first set 6-2. However, in the second set Whitesel fell behind Grot 3-0. But slowly and surely he clawed his way back to tie the match and eventually overcame Grot to take the match 6-4.

With the overall match secured, Juniata looked to give some varsity time to some of the young talent on the roster.

One of which was Angelica Y-Barro who was competing in her first tennis match. She was paired with freshmen Chadwin Fisher. The duo went and defeated the team of Cohen Wallace and Maverick Fleck 8-1.

Then in the final match of the evening, Owen Hubley and Ethan Becker got their opportunity at the varsity level as they competed against the team of Colin Youdes and Elijah Walk. Hubley and Becker completed the seven match sweep with an 8-2 victory over Youdes and Walk.
