juniata tops MC in jvfl action

Fans got their money worth in the Juniata Valley Football League’s John E. Groninger Bowl that pitted the Juniata Indians Midgets against the Mifflin County Huskies Midget team.
Scoring was not scarce in this battle when the two teams combined 62 points.
In the end, the Indians prevailed as they escaped as 33-29 victors.
Juniata got the game started with the first touchdown of the game.
On its first drive, Cameron Sweigert capped off a 9-play drive with a 27-yard touchdown run. The successful extra point gave Juniata a 7-0 lead.
It took Mifflin County just three plays later to take the lead from Juniata.
On third down, Tyler Hunter scored from 40 yards out, cutting it to 8-6.
Brayden Eversole found a wide open Jayden King for the 2-point conversion, making it 8-7.
Back came the Indians as they only trailed for three plays.
Sweigert once again got his name called and he punched it in from 39 yards out.
Late in the first half, the Huskies scored seemingly take the lead at halftime 16-13.
Hunter crossed the goal from one yard out, putting them ahead 16-13 with the successful 2-point conversion.
But Juniata had the last laugh when Sweigert scored from three yards out with no time left to go into the half leading 19-16.
Defense took center stage in the third as both teams went most of the period scoreless.
However, the Indians took its biggest lead of the game when Jonathan Kauffman muscled his way in from one out, upping the lead to 26-16.
Central came battling back and put itself back in the ball game early in the fourth.
Josiah Sechler blazed his way down the field to a 55-yard touchdown, making it 26-23 with 8:11 left.
Juniata added an insurance touchdown minutes later when Sweigert got the touch and burned the defense for a 57-yard scamper, upping the lead to 33-23.
Mifflin County went out fighting, scoring late in the game thanks to a 40-yard run by Sechler , cutting it to 33-29.
Central tried an insides kick but it was recovered by the Indians, securing the victory.
