The McVeytown Knights pee wees used a second half offensive outburst of 18 points to open up a very close first half contest against the Little Mingoes in the JVFL Body and Soul Bowl.
When the final buzzer sounded, the Knights left the field as the 26-8 victors.
In a first quarter of defensive dominance by both teams, McVeytown took its first possession of the second and made it count.
Facing a first and goal at the nine, the Knights gave the ball to Tarryn Bookwalter to carry it in for the touchdown. A McVeytown 2-point conversion later, the Knights led 8-0.
Defensively, McVeytown’s Connor Copenhaver killed a potential Little Mingoes’ scoring drive when he intercepted the ball deep in the Knights side of the field.
Taking the lead into the intermission, the Knights held a slim 8-0 lead.
However, that would all change when the second half got underway.
McVeytown started the half with the ball and quickly marched down the field.
This time facing a first and goal from the five, the Knights gave the ball to Brycen Boozel who scored.
“The Red and Black” scored once again in the third when Tanner Pham got the hand off and ran it in from two-yards out, upping the lead to 20-0.
Late in the fourth, the Little Mingoes finally got on the board. Jayden King got the nod and blazed his way to an 80-yard touchdown run. After a successful 2-point attempt the Mingoes cut the lead to 12 with :48 ticks left.
But the Knights had one last drive in them, scoring their last touchdown at the end of the game.
Copenhaver picked up his second touchdown of the game and led his team to the 26-8 victory.
